... are disappearing quickly
from
the Prairie landscape
Sask
Wheat Pool Elevator
- South Railway St E - Swift
Current
(Photo taken 2002 June 16)
~~This Sask Wheat Pool elevator
was torn down
a couple months after this photo
was taken
and sadly, it was the only photo I ever took of
this proud Prairie Sentinel... too little, too late!!!~~
The grain elevators
standing so tall and proud ...
...many small Prairie Towns used to have 5 or 6.
Now even the
larger towns do not have any.
All in the name of progress, they are quickly disappearing
from the Prairiescapes and being replaced
by the bigger, much more impersonal grain terminals.
You used to know what town you were
driving through
just by looking at the name proudly displayed on
each of the town's local grain elevators.
Now you drive through the towns, not
even paying the slightest attention...
I still LOVE seeing the few
remaining grain elevators
still dotting the sky line as you drive by or through the
small Prairie towns
and find myself wondering how long I will see their welcoming peaks...
